About me
Hello! My name is Sylvia and I have been a teacher for five years now. I am fluent in three languages (Spanish, English and Portuguese) and I love music, art, culture, literature, and science. If you're curious about learning with me, send me a message and we'll get to know each other!
About my lessons
My classes combine a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere with thoughtful, personalised teaching. I believe that learning a language is about much more than memorising vocabulary and grammar: it's about discovering a new way of understanding and experiencing the world. I'm a warm, informal and good-humoured teacher, and I place great importance on building genuine connections with my students. Many of my students have stayed with me for years, something I attribute to the relationships we build and my commitment to understanding each person's individual needs, interests and learning style. Although I follow a structured curriculum, I adapt it to each student rather than expecting everyone to learn in the same way. My lessons combine clear grammar explanations, precise feedback and plenty of opportunities to develop a natural feel for the language. I also assign homework to help consolidate what we learn, while keeping expectations realistic and sustainable. With a background and strong interests in literature, etymology, culture and science, I love bringing these subjects into my lessons. I enjoy explaining not only how a language works, but also why it works the way it does, including its peculiarities, expressions and cultural context. Whether you're interested in developing your conversational skills, exploring literature and culture, improving your fluency or working on translation, I'd love to accompany you on your learning journey!
